Kanagawa Prefectural Government and three Cities of Kamakura, Yokohama and Zushi are aiming for World Heritage registration of “Kamakura”
Kanagawa Prefectural Government (K.P.G.) and the three Cities of Kamakura, Yokohama and Zushi had been making efforts toward the World Heritage registration of “Kamakura, Home of the Samurai” in June 2013. But unfortunately, it couldn’tbe inscribed on the List.
The following is how the decision was mede.
2012/1 |
The Japanese government submitted the formal nomination file to UNESCO World Heritage Centre. |
2012/9 |
On-site evaluation by ICOMOS (advisory body to the UNESCO) specialists. |
2013年4月30日 |
ICOMOS recommended that Kamakura would not inscribe on the World Heritage List, mainly because the tangible evidence was insufficient. |
2013年5月27日 |
In case UNESCO World Heritage Committee makes the decision not to inscribe the property on the List as ICOMOS recommends, it will not be able to be renominated. Therefore, K.P.G. and the three Cities decided to withdraw the nomination. |
2013年6月4日 |
The Japanese government made the decision to withdraw the nomination of“Kamakura, Home of the Samurai”. |
In the ICOMOS recommendations, much of outstanding value of “Kamakura” was highly appreciated, and K.P.G. and the three Cities continue our efforts for "Kamakura" to be listed as a World Heritage site.
